After these events, the word of the Lord came  to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid,  Abram. I am your shield; your reward will be very great.


David answered Gad, ‘I have great anxiety. Please, let us fall into the Lord’s hands because his mercies are great,  but don’t let me fall into human hands.’


Then Elijah said, ‘As the Lord of Armies lives,  in whose presence I stand, today I will present myself to Ahab.’


Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him. Then Ahab went to meet Elijah.


Elisha said, ‘Don’t be afraid,  for those who are with us outnumber those who are with them.’


They will fight against you but never prevail over you,  since I am with you to rescue you.’  This is the Lord’s declaration.


Now Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jucal  son of Shelemiah,  and Pashhur son of Malchijah heard the words Jeremiah was speaking to all the people:


‘My lord the king, these men have been evil in all they have done to the prophet Jeremiah. They have dropped him into the cistern, where he will die from hunger, because there is no more bread in the city.’


So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den.  The king said to Daniel, ‘May your God, whom you continually serve,  rescue you! ’


‘And the King will answer them, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
