In the morning they got up early and went out to the wilderness of Tekoa. As they were about to go out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, ‘Hear me, Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem. Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be established;  believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.’


he taught me and said, ‘Your heart must hold on to my words. Keep my commands and live.


Keep my commands and live, and guard my instructions as you would the pupil of your eye.


Pay attention and come to me; listen, so that you will live. I will make a permanent covenant with you on the basis of the faithful kindnesses of David.  ,


which I commanded your ancestors when I brought them out of the land of Egypt,  out of the iron furnace.’  I declared, ‘Obey me, and do everything that I command you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God,’


Yet they would not obey or pay attention; each one followed the stubbornness of his evil heart.  So I brought on them all the curses of this covenant, because they had not done what I commanded them to do.’


So now, correct your ways and deeds,  and obey the Lord your God so that he might relent concerning the disaster he had pronounced against you.


But if you refuse to surrender, this is the verdict  that the Lord has shown me:


However, I did give them this command: “Obey me, and then I will be your God, and you will be my people. Follow every way I command you so that it may go well with you.”


Therefore, may my advice seem good to you, my king. Separate yourself from your sins by doing what is right,  and from your injustices by showing mercy to the needy.  Perhaps there will be an extension of your prosperity.’


For the Lord says to the house of Israel: Seek me and live!


Seek the Lord   and live, or he will spread like fire throughout the house of Joseph; it will consume everything with no one at Bethel to extinguish it.


‘I wish before God,’ replied Paul, ‘that whether easily or with difficulty,  not only you but all who listen to me today might become as I am #– #except for these chains.’


Therefore, since we know the fear of the Lord,  we try to persuade people. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your consciences.


Therefore, we are ambassadors  for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf,  ‘Be reconciled to God.’


Working together with him, we also appeal to you, ‘Don’t receive the grace of God in vain.’


But  be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
