But it was in the fortress of Ecbatana in the province of Media  that a scroll was found with this record written on it:


If only I had someone to hear my case! Here is my signature; let the Almighty answer me. Let my Opponent compose his indictment.


The Lord then said to Moses, ‘Write this down on a scroll as a reminder and recite it to Joshua: I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.’


Then the Lord said to me, ‘Take a large piece of parchment  and write on it with an ordinary pen:  , Maher-shalal-hash-baz.


See, I have appointed you today over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and demolish, to build and plant.


I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations.


Then the Lord reached out his hand, touched my mouth,  and told me: I have now filled your mouth with my words.


Hear the word of the  Lord, house of Jacob and all families of the house of Israel.


‘From the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon,  king of Judah, until this very day #– #twenty-three years #– #the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken to you time and time again,  , but you have not obeyed.


‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Write on a scroll all the words that I have spoken to you,


Then all the officials sent word to Baruch through Jehudi son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi, saying, ‘Bring the scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come.’ So Baruch son of Neriah took the scroll and went to them.


Baruch said to them, ‘At his dictation. He recited all these words to me while I was writing on the scroll in ink.’


As soon as Jehudi would read three or four columns, Jehoiakim would cut the scroll  with a scribe’s knife and throw the columns into the fire in the hearth until the entire scroll was consumed by the fire in the hearth.


You are to proclaim concerning King Jehoiakim of Judah, “This is what the Lord says: You have burned the scroll, asking, ‘Why have you written on it that  the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land and cause it to be without people or animals? ’


so you must go and read from the scroll #– #which you wrote at my dictation   #– #the words of the Lord in the hearing of the people at the temple of the Lord on a day of fasting. Read his words in the hearing of all the Judeans who are coming from their cities.


This is the word that the prophet Jeremiah spoke to Baruch son of Neriah  when he wrote these words on a scroll at Jeremiah’s dictation  , in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah:


Jeremiah wrote on one scroll about all the disaster that would come to Babylon;  all these words were written against Babylon.


So I looked and saw a hand reaching out to me,  and there was a written scroll in it.


Though I were to write out for him ten thousand points of my instruction, they would be  regarded as something strange.


When Moses had finished writing down on a scroll every single word of this law,


Then I said, ‘See – it is written about me in the scroll – I have come to do your will, God.’   ,
