For this is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields, and vineyards will again be bought in this land.”


They will live there securely,  build houses, and plant vineyards.  They will live securely when I execute judgements  against all their neighbours who treat them with contempt. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God.” ’


‘ “You, mountains of Israel, will produce your branches  and bear your fruit for my people Israel, since their arrival is near.


I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel.  , They will rebuild and occupy ruined cities, plant vineyards and drink their wine, make gardens and eat their produce.


People from the Negev will possess the hill country of Esau; those from the Judean foothills will possess the land of the Philistines. They  will possess the territories of Ephraim and Samaria, while Benjamin will possess Gilead.


Therefore, I will make Samaria a heap of ruins  in the countryside, a planting area  for a vineyard. I will roll her stones  into the valley and expose her foundations.


But each person will sit under his grapevine and under his fig tree with no one to frighten him. For the mouth of the Lord   of Armies has spoken.


On that day, each of you will invite his neighbour to sit under his vine and fig tree.’  This is the declaration of the Lord of Armies.


Has any man planted a vineyard and not begun to enjoy its fruit?  Let him leave and return home. Otherwise he may die in battle and another man enjoy its fruit.


You will become engaged to a woman, but another man will rape her. You will build a house but not live in it.  You will plant a vineyard but not enjoy its fruit.


David answered him, ‘I swear that women are being kept from us, as always when I go out to battle.  The young men’s bodies  are consecrated  even on an ordinary mission, so of course their bodies are consecrated today.’
