17 At that time Jerusalem will be called The Lord’s Throne,  and all the nations will be gathered to it,  to the name of the Lord in Jerusalem.  They will cease to follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.

When the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma,  he said to himself, ‘I will never again curse the ground  because of human beings, even though the inclination of the human heart is evil from youth onward.  And I will never again strike down every living thing as I have done.


Even for the foreigner who is not of your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your name –


Yes, Lord, we wait for you in the path of your judgements. Our desire is for your name and renown.


As for the foreigners who join themselves to the  Lord to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to become his servants – all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold firmly to my covenant –


They will fear the name of the  Lord in the west and his glory in the east;  , for he will come like a rushing stream driven by the wind of the  Lord.


In the year that King Uzziah  died, I saw the Lord  seated on a high and lofty  throne,  and the hem of his robe filled the temple.


This is what the Lord says: Heaven  is my throne, and earth is my footstool. Where could you possibly build a house for me? And where would my resting place be?


‘Knowing  their works and their thoughts, I have come to gather all nations and languages;  they will come and see my glory.


They will bring all your brothers from all the nations as a gift to the Lord on horses and chariots, in litters, and on mules and camels, to my holy mountain Jerusalem,’  says the Lord, ‘just as the Israelites bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord.


Yet they would not obey or pay attention; each one followed the stubbornness of his evil heart.  So I brought on them all the curses of this covenant, because they had not done what I commanded them to do.’


After I have uprooted them, I will once again have compassion  on them and return each one to his inheritance and to his land.


If they will diligently learn the ways of my people   #– #to swear by my name, “As the Lord lives,” just as they taught my people to swear by Baal #– #they will be built up among my people.


For your name’s sake, don’t despise us. Don’t disdain your glorious throne. Remember your covenant  with us; do not break it.


You did more evil than your ancestors.  Look, each one of you was following the stubbornness of his evil heart, not obeying me.


Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in a time of distress, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, and they will say, ‘Our ancestors inherited only lies, worthless idols  of no benefit at all.’


A glorious throne on high  from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary.


But they will say, “It’s hopeless.  We will continue to follow our plans, and each of us will continue to act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.” ’


I thought, ‘How I long to make you my sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance  of all the nations.’ I thought, ‘You will call me “My Father” and never turn away from me.’


This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘When I restore their fortunes,  they will once again speak this word in the land of Judah and in its cities: “May the Lord bless you, righteous settlement,  holy mountain.”


This city will bear on my behalf a name of joy, praise, and glory  before all the nations of the earth, who will hear of all the prosperity I will give them. They will tremble with awe because of all the good and all the peace  I will bring about for them.


then you can swear, ‘As the  Lord  lives,’ in truth,  justice, and righteousness, and then the nations will be blessed  by him and will boast in him.


Yet they didn’t listen or pay attention,  but followed their own advice and their own stubborn, evil heart. They went backwards and not forwards.


Instead, they followed the stubbornness of their hearts  and followed the Baals as their ancestors taught them.’


Something like a throne with the appearance of lapis lazuli was above the expanse over their heads.  On the throne, high above, was someone who looked like a human.


He said to me, ‘Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet,  where I will dwell among the Israelites for ever.  The house of Israel and their kings will no longer defile my holy name by their religious prostitution and by the corpses  , of their kings at their high places.  ,


The perimeter of the city will be 9.6 kilometres,  and the name of the city from that day on will be The Lord Is There.’


‘Many nations will join themselves to the Lord on that day and become my  people.  I will dwell among you, and you will know that the Lord of Armies has sent me to you.


I will bring them back  to live in Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their faithful and righteous God.’


These will serve as tassels for you to look at, so that you may remember all the Lord’s commands and obey them and not prostitute yourselves by following your own heart  and your own eyes.


For though they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened.


For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under the law  but under grace.


But the Jerusalem above  is free, and she is our mother.


The hidden things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things belong to us and our children for ever, so that we may follow all the words of this law.


Whenever the judge died, the Israelites would act even more corruptly  than their ancestors, following other gods to serve them and bow in worship to them. They did not turn from their evil practices or their obstinate  ways.
