and when they return to you with all their mind and all their heart in the land of their captivity where they were taken captive, and when they pray in the direction of their land that you gave their ancestors, and the city you have chosen, and towards the temple I have built for your name,


I have put my words in your mouth, and covered you in the shadow of my hand, in order to plant  the heavens, to found the earth, and to say to Zion, ‘You are my people.’


which I commanded your ancestors when I brought them out of the land of Egypt,  out of the iron furnace.’  I declared, ‘Obey me, and do everything that I command you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God,’


For this is what the Lord says: ‘When seventy years for Babylon are complete,  I will attend to you and will confirm my promise concerning you to restore you to this place.


Yet in spite of all this, her treacherous sister Judah didn’t return to me with all her heart   #– #only in pretence.’ This is the Lord’s declaration.


You will be my people, and I will be your God.


However, I did give them this command: “Obey me, and then I will be your God, and you will be my people. Follow every way I command you so that it may go well with you.”


‘Therefore say, “This is what the Lord God says: I will gather you from the peoples  and assemble you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.”


in order that the house of Israel may no longer stray from following me and no longer defile themselves  with all their transgressions. Then they will be my people and I will be their God.  This is the declaration of the Lord God.” ’


I will establish my covenant with you,  and you will know that I am the Lord,


They will not defile themselves any more with their idols,  their abhorrent things, and all their transgressions.  I will save them from all their apostasies by which  they sinned,  and I will cleanse them. Then they will be my people, and I will be their God.


My dwelling place will be with them;  I will be their God, and they will be my people.


From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God.


The earth will respond to the grain, the new wine, and the fresh oil, and they will respond to Jezreel.


I will put this third through the fire; I will refine them as silver is refined and test them as gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, “They are my people,” and they will say, “The Lord is our God.” ’


I will bring them back  to live in Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their faithful and righteous God.’


But thank God that, although you used to be slaves of sin,  you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching to which you were handed  over,


But they now desire a better place #– #a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.


For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.


Samuel told them, ‘If you  are returning to the Lord   with all your heart,  get rid of the foreign gods  and the Ashtoreths that are among you, set your hearts on the Lord, and worship only him.  Then he will rescue you from the Philistines.’
