He also carried off from there all the treasures of the Lord’s temple and the treasures of the king’s palace, and he cut into pieces all the gold articles that King Solomon of Israel had made  for the Lord’s sanctuary, just as the Lord had predicted.


Therefore Jacob’s iniquity  will be atoned for in this way, and the result of the removal of his sin will be this: when he makes all the altar stones like crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing.


Over all the barren heights in the wilderness the destroyers have come, for the Lord has a sword that devours from one end of the earth to the other. No one has peace.


I will give up your wealth and your treasures as plunder, without cost,  for all your sins in all your borders.


I will give away all the wealth  of this city, all its products  and valuables. Indeed, I will hand all the treasures of the kings of Judah over to their enemies. They will plunder them, seize them, and carry them off to Babylon.


Beware! I am against you, you who sit above the valley, you on top of the rocky plateau – this is the  Lord’s declaration – you who say, ‘Who can come down against us? Who can enter our hiding places? ’


‘Micah the Moreshite  prophesied in the days of King Hezekiah of Judah  and said to all the people of Judah, “This is what the Lord of Armies says: Zion will be ploughed like a field, Jerusalem will become ruins, and the temple’s mountain will be a high thicket.”


The adversary has seized all her precious belongings. She has even seen the nations enter her sanctuary – those you had forbidden to enter your assembly.


I will hand you over to them, and they will demolish your mounds and tear down your elevated places. They will strip off your clothes,  take your beautiful jewellery, and leave you stark naked.


‘This is what the Lord God says: Summon  an assembly against them and consign them to terror and plunder.


You are to say: Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! This is what the Lord God says to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys: I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.


I will destroy your high places, cut down your shrines,  and heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless bodies of your idols;  I will reject you.


Therefore, because of you, Zion will be ploughed like a field, Jerusalem will become ruins, and the temple’s mountain will be a high thicket.


Their wealth will become plunder and their houses a ruin. They will build houses but never live in them, plant vineyards but never drink their wine.
