Then Hoshea  son of Elah organised a conspiracy against Pekah son of Remaliah. He attacked him, killed him,  and became king in his place in the twentieth year of Jotham son of Uzziah.


There will be nothing to do except crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


Ephraim’s envy will cease; Judah’s harassing will end. Ephraim will no longer be envious of Judah, and Judah will not harass Ephraim.


Therefore the Lord’s anger burned  against his people. He raised his hand against them and struck them; the mountains quaked, and their corpses were like rubbish in the streets. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


They will wander through the land, dejected and hungry. When they are famished, they will become enraged, and, looking upwards, will curse their king and their God.


Aram from the east and Philistia from the west have consumed Israel with open mouths. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over  Israel’s young men and has no compassion on its fatherless and widows, for everyone is a godless evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


I will smash them against each other, fathers and sons alike #– #this is the Lord’s declaration. I will allow no mercy, pity, or compassion to keep me from destroying them.” ’


Because of this, put on sackcloth; mourn and wail, for the Lord’s burning anger has not turned away from us.


Then I cut in two my second staff, Union, annulling the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.


Then many will fall away, betray one another, and hate one another.


But if you bite and devour  one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another.


The Lord said to Gideon, ‘You have too many troops for me to hand the Midianites over to them, or else Israel might elevate themselves over me and say,  “I saved myself.”


Saul and all the troops with him assembled and marched to the battle, and there the Philistines were, fighting against each other in great confusion!
