for the ground of my people growing thorns and briars, indeed, for every joyous house in the jubilant city.


And on that day every place where there were a thousand vines, worth a thousand pieces of silver, will become thorns and briars.


Gladness and celebration are taken from the fertile field and from the land of Moab. I have stopped the flow of wine from the winepresses; no one will tread with shouts of joy. The shouting is not a shout of joy.


The seeds lie shrivelled in their casings.  , The storehouses are in ruin, and the granaries are broken down, because the corn has withered away.


When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will bake your bread in a single oven and ration out your bread by weight, so that you will eat but not be satisfied.


‘If a man consecrates to the Lord any part of a field that he possesses, your assessment of value will be proportional to the seed needed to sow it, at the rate of fifty silver shekels for every two hundred and twenty litres  of barley seed.


You have planted much but harvested little. You eat but never have enough to be satisfied. You drink but never have enough to be happy. You put on clothes but never have enough to get warm. The wage earner puts his wages into a bag with a hole in it.’


what state were you in?  When someone came to a grain heap of twenty measures, it only amounted to ten; when one came to the winepress to dip fifty measures from the vat, it only amounted to twenty.


‘You will sow much seed in the field but harvest little, because locusts will devour it.


You will plant and cultivate vineyards but not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because worms will eat them.
