Jehoahaz did not have an army left, except for fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand foot soldiers, because the king of Aram had destroyed them,  making them like dust at threshing.


A wise king separates out the wicked and drives the threshing wheel  over them.


His God teaches him order; he instructs him.


Bread grain is crushed, but is not threshed endlessly. Though the wheel of the farmer’s cart rumbles, his horses do not crush it.


See, I will make you into a sharp threshing board, new, with many teeth. You will thresh mountains and pulverise them and make hills into chaff.


Discipline me, Lord, but with justice – not in your anger, or you will reduce me to nothing.


And you, my servant Jacob, do not be afraid – this is the  Lord’s declaration – for I will be with you. I will bring destruction on all the nations where I have banished you, but I will not bring destruction on you. I will discipline you with justice, and I will by no means leave you unpunished.


The Lord says: I will not relent from punishing Damascus for three crimes, even four, because they threshed Gilead with iron sledges.


‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of   mint, dill, and cumin, and yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law #– #justice,   mercy, and faithfulness.   These things should have been done without neglecting the others.
