Then out of the sky the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah burning sulphur from the Lord.


He demolished these cities, the entire plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and whatever grew on the ground.


A pronouncement  concerning Babylon  that Isaiah son of Amoz saw:


Look, riders come – horsemen in pairs.’ And he answered, saying, ‘Babylon has fallen,  has fallen. All the images of her gods have been shattered on the ground.’


‘Daughter Chaldea, sit in silence  and go into darkness. For you will no longer be called mistress of kingdoms.


All of you, assemble and listen! Who among the idols  has declared these things? The Lord loves him; he will accomplish his will against Babylon, and his arm will be against the Chaldeans.


When the seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation” #– #this is the Lord’s declaration #– #“the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, and I will make it a ruin for ever.


As when Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown along with their neighbours,’  says the Lord, ‘no one will live there; no human being will stay in it even temporarily.


Just as God demolished Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbouring towns   – this is the  Lord’s declaration – so no one will live there; no human being will stay in it even temporarily as a temporary resident.


No one will be able to retrieve a cornerstone or a foundation stone from you, because you will become desolate for ever. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


The earth quakes  and trembles because the Lord’s intentions against Babylon stand: to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.


How Sheshak  , has been captured, the praise  of the whole earth seized. What a horror Babylon has become among the nations!


Say, “Lord, you have threatened to cut off  this place so that no one will live in it #– #people or animals.  Indeed, it will remain desolate for ever.”


the king exclaimed, ‘Is this not Babylon the Great that I have built to be a royal residence by my vast power and for my majestic glory? ’


I overthrew some of you as I  overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a burning stick snatched from a fire, yet you did not return to me   – This is the  Lord’s declaration.


Therefore, as I live – this is the declaration of the  Lord of Armies, the God of Israel – Moab will be like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah: a place overgrown with weeds, a salt pit, and a perpetual wasteland. The remnant of my people will plunder them; the remainder of my nation will dispossess them.


And just as Isaiah predicted: If the Lord of Armies had not left us offspring, we would have become like Sodom, and we would have been made like Gomorrah.   ,


All its soil will be a burning waste of sulphur and salt, unsown, producing nothing, with no plant growing on it, just like the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the Lord demolished in his fierce anger.


The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo any longer #– #


They threw dust on their heads and kept crying out, weeping, and mourning, Woe, woe, the great city, where all those who have ships on the sea became rich from her wealth; for in a single hour she was destroyed.
