Our guilt has been terrible from the days of our ancestors until the present. Because of our iniquities we have been handed over, along with our kings and priests, to the surrounding kings, and to the sword, captivity, plundering, and open shame,  as it is today.


Israel is a lush   vine; it yields fruit for itself. The more his fruit increased, the more he increased the altars. The better his land produced, the better they made the sacred pillars.


The calf itself will be taken to Assyria as an offering to the great king.  , Ephraim will experience shame; Israel will be ashamed of its counsel.


I will ransom them from the power of Sheol. I will redeem  them from death. Death, where are your barbs? Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion is hidden from my eyes.


When they had pasture, they became satisfied; they were satisfied, and their hearts became proud. Therefore they forgot me.


They will eat but not be satisfied; they will be promiscuous  but not multiply. For they have abandoned their devotion to the  Lord.


Hear this, priests! Pay attention, house of Israel! Listen, royal house! For the judgement applies to you because you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread out on Tabor.


Like raiders who wait in ambush for someone, a band of priests murders on the road to Shechem. They commit atrocities.


Ephraim’s glory will fly away like a bird: no birth, no pregnancy, no conception.


You will be filled with disgrace instead of glory. You also #– #drink, and expose your uncircumcision! The cup in the Lord’s right hand will come around to you, and utter disgrace will cover your glory.


‘So I in turn have made you despised  and humiliated before all the people because you are not keeping my ways but are showing partiality in your instruction.’


Then  Jeshurun  , became fat and rebelled – you became fat, bloated, and gorged. He abandoned the God who made him and scorned the Rock of his salvation.


Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory  is in their shame; and they are focused on earthly things.


‘Therefore, this is the declaration of the Lord, the God of Israel: “I did say that your family and your forefather’s family would walk before me for ever.  But now,” this is the Lord’s declaration, “no longer! For those who honour me I will honour,  but those who despise me will be disgraced.
