He was a powerful hunter in the sight of the Lord. That is why it is said, ‘Like Nimrod, a powerful hunter in the sight of the Lord.’


As people migrated from the east,  they found a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there.


Therefore it is called Babylon,  ,, for there the Lord confused the language of the whole earth, and from there the Lord scattered them throughout the earth.


In those days King Amraphel of Shinar,  King Arioch of Ellasar, King Chedorlaomer of Elam,  and King Tidal of Goiim


Isn’t Calno like Carchemish? Isn’t Hamath like Arpad? Isn’t Samaria  like Damascus?


On that day  the Lord will extend his hand a second time to recover the remnant of his people who survive #– #from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coasts and islands of the west.


At that time  Merodach-baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah since he heard that he had been ill and had recovered.


‘Enquire of the Lord on our behalf, since King Nebuchadnezzar  , of Babylon is making war against us. Perhaps the Lord will perform for us something like all his past wondrous works so that Nebuchadnezzar will withdraw from us.’


This is the word the Lord spoke about Babylon,  the land of the Chaldeans, through the prophet Jeremiah:


Attack the land of Merathaim, and those living in Pekod. Put them to the sword; completely destroy them – this is the  Lord’s declaration – do everything I have commanded you.


Haran, Canneh, Eden,  the merchants of Sheba, Asshur,  and Chilmad traded with you.


The Lord handed King Jehoiakim of Judah over to him, along with some of the vessels from the house of God.  Nebuchadnezzar carried them to the land of Babylon,  , to the house of his god,  and put the vessels in the treasury of his god.


Cross over to Calneh  and see; go from there to great Hamath; then go down to Gath  of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms? Is their territory larger than yours?


Writhe and cry out,  , Daughter Zion, like a woman in labour, for now you will leave the city and camp in the open fields. You will go to Babylon; there you will be rescued; there the Lord will redeem you from the grasp of your enemies!


They will shepherd  the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod  with a drawn blade. So he will rescue us  from Assyria when it invades our land, when it marches against our territory.


‘To build a shrine for it in the land of Shinar,’  he told me. ‘When that is ready, the basket will be placed there on its pedestal.’
