For the Lord will strike Israel so that they will  shake as a reed shakes in water. He will uproot Israel from this good soil that he gave to their ancestors.  He will scatter them beyond the Euphrates  because they made their Asherah poles, angering the Lord.


and they tore down the pillar  of Baal. Then they tore down the temple of Baal and made it a latrine   #– #which it still is today.


He removed the high places, shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles.  He broke into pieces the bronze snake that Moses made,  for until then the Israelites were burning incense to it. It was called Nehushtan.


He broke the sacred pillars into pieces,  cut down the Asherah poles,  then filled their places with human bones.


He removed the pagan altars and the high places. He shattered their sacred pillars and chopped down their Asherah poles.


King Asa  also removed Maacah, his grandmother,  , from being queen mother because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. Asa chopped down her obscene image, then crushed it and burned it in the Kidron Valley.


He took great pride in the Lord’s ways, and he again  removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.


and they abandoned the temple of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and served the Asherah poles and the idols.  So there was wrath  against Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs.


When all this was completed, all Israel who had attended went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars, chopped down the Asherah poles, and tore down the high places and altars  throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and Manasseh, to the last one.  Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own possession.


His prayer and how God was receptive to his prayer, and all his sin and unfaithfulness and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and carved images before he humbled himself, they are written in the Events of Hozai.


Do not bow in worship to their gods, and do not serve them. Do not imitate their practices. Instead, demolish them  and smash their sacred pillars to pieces.


They will not look to the altars  they made with their hands or to the Asherahs and shrines  , they made with their fingers.


Therefore Jacob’s iniquity  will be atoned for in this way, and the result of the removal of his sin will be this: when he makes all the altar stones like crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing.


while their children remember their altars and their Asherah poles, by the green trees on the high hills –


I will pull up the Asherah poles  from among you and demolish your cities.


you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you, destroy all their stone images  and cast images,  and demolish all their high places.


‘Do not set up an Asherah of any kind of wood next to the altar you will build for the Lord your God,


and do not set up a sacred pillar; the Lord your God hates them.


Instead, this is what you are to do to them: tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, cut down their Asherah poles,  and burn their carved images.


You are not to make a covenant  with the inhabitants of this land. You are to tear down their altars.  But you have not obeyed me. What have you done?


On that very night the Lord said to him, ‘Take your father’s young bull and a second bull seven years old. Then tear down the altar of Baal  that belongs to your father and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.


Build a well-constructed altar to the Lord your God on the top of this mound.  Take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down.’
