He asked the Gibeonites, ‘What should I do for you? How can I make atonement so that you will bring a blessing on  the Lord’s inheritance? ’


God is not partial  to princes and does not favour the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands.


‘When you take a census  of the Israelites to register them, each of the men must pay a ransom  for his life to the Lord as they are registered. Then no plague  will come on them as they are registered.


Each man who is registered, twenty years old or more, must give this contribution to the Lord.


Take the atonement price  from the Israelites and use it for the service of the tent of meeting. It will serve as a reminder for the Israelites before the Lord to atone for your lives.’


5.7 grams  per man, that is, half a shekel according to the sanctuary shekel, from everyone twenty years old or more who had crossed over to the registered group, 603,550 men.


Rich and poor have this in common: the Lord makes them all.


‘All the people of the land must take part in this contribution for the prince in Israel.


For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have appointed it to you to make atonement on the altar for  your lives, since it is the lifeblood that makes atonement.


So we have presented to the Lord an offering of the gold articles each man found #– #armlets, bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces #– #to make atonement for ourselves before the Lord.’


And masters, treat your slaves the same way, without threatening  them, because you know that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favouritism  with him.


For the wrongdoer  will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favouritism.
