Then the Lord said to Abram,  ‘Know this for certain: your offspring will be resident foreigners  for four hundred years  in a land that does not belong to them and will be enslaved and oppressed.


However, I will judge the nation they serve,  and afterwards they will go out with many possessions.


The time that the Israelites lived in Egypt  was 430 years.


At the end of 430 years, on that same day, all the Lord’s military divisions went out from the land of Egypt.


Moses said to the Lord, ‘Look, you have told me, “Lead this people up,” but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You said, “I know you by name,  and you have also found favour with me.”


Now if I have indeed found favour with you, please teach me your ways,  and I will know you, so that I may find favour with you. Now consider that this nation is your people.’


It was this Aaron and Moses whom the Lord told, ‘Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt according to their military divisions.’


The Lord brought Israel from Egypt by a prophet, and Israel was tended by a prophet.


Indeed, I brought you up  from the land of Egypt and redeemed you  from that place of slavery. I sent Moses,  Aaron, and Miriam  ahead of you.


I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. And now, come, I will send you to Egypt.   ,


This man led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt,  at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.


God spoke in this way: His descendants would be strangers in a foreign country, and they would enslave and oppress them for four hundred years.


I will judge the nation that they will serve as slaves, God said. After this, they will come out and worship me in this place.   ,


The Lord turned to him and said, ‘Go in the strength you have and deliver Israel from the grasp of Midian. I am sending you! ’


Then Samuel said to the people, ‘The Lord, who appointed Moses and Aaron  and who brought your ancestors up from the land of Egypt, is a witness.


‘When Jacob went to Egypt,  your ancestors cried out to the Lord,  and he sent them Moses and Aaron, who led your ancestors out of Egypt and settled them in this place.
