When King David got to Bahurim, a man belonging to the family of the house of Saul was just coming out.  His name was Shimei son of Gera,  and he was yelling curses as he approached.


‘Keep an eye on Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim who is with you. He uttered malicious curses against me the day I went to Mahanaim.  But he came down to meet me at the River Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, “I will never kill you with the sword.”


So don’t let him go unpunished, for you are a wise man. You know how to deal with him to bring his grey head down to Sheol with blood.’


for when you return to the Lord, your brothers and your sons will receive mercy in the presence of their captors and will return to this land.  For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful;  he will not turn his face away from you if you return to him.’


If you do mistreat them, they will no doubt cry to me, and I will certainly hear their cry.


The Lord passed in front of him and proclaimed: The Lord  #– #the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth,


Do not curse the king even in your thoughts, and do not curse a rich person even in your bedroom, for a bird of the sky may carry the message, and a winged creature may report the matter.


It will be a sign and witness to the Lord of Armies in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, he will send them a saviour and leader, and he will rescue them.


‘When you make a loan of any kind to your neighbour, do not enter his house to collect what he offers as security.
