‘When a man gives his neighbour a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any other animal to care for, but it dies, is injured, or is stolen, while no one is watching,


But if, in fact, the animal was stolen from his custody, he must make restitution to its owner.


If the thief is not caught, the owner of the house must present himself to the judges  to determine  whether or not he has taken his neighbour’s property.


‘You must not spread a false report. Do not join  the wicked to be a malicious witness.


Otherwise, I might have too much and deny you,  saying, ‘Who is the  Lord? ’ or I might have nothing and steal, profaning  the name of my God.


Keep  the king’s command because of your oath made before God.


‘When someone sins in any of these ways: If he has seen, heard, or known about something he has witnessed, and did not respond to a public call to testify, he will bear his iniquity.


or finds something lost and lies about it;  or swears falsely  about any of the sinful things a person may do #– #


For people swear by something greater than themselves, and for them a confirming oath ends every dispute.
