Deuteronomy 6:12

Instead fear the Lord, who brought you up from the land of Egypt with great power  and an outstretched arm.  You are to bow down to him, and you are to sacrifice to him.


Do not forget the covenant that I have made with you.  Do not fear other gods,


Such is the destiny  of all who forget God; the hope of the godless  will perish.


‘In the future, when your son  asks you, “What does this mean? ” say to him, “By the strength of his hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.


Then Moses said to the people, ‘Remember this day when you came out of Egypt, out of the place of slavery, for the Lord brought you out of here by the strength of his hand. Nothing leavened may be eaten.


‘Therefore tell the Israelites: I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from the forced labour of the Egyptians and rescue you from slavery to them. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm  and great acts of judgement.


Otherwise, I might have too much and deny you,  saying, ‘Who is the  Lord? ’ or I might have nothing and steal, profaning  the name of my God.


For you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and you have failed to remember the rock of your strength; therefore you will plant beautiful plants and set out cuttings from exotic vines.


But you have forgotten the  Lord, your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth. You are in constant dread all day long because of the fury of the oppressor, who has set himself to destroy. But where is the fury of the oppressor?


‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I made a covenant  with your ancestors when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery, saying,


And I will punish her for the days of the Baals, to which she burned incense. She put on her rings and her jewellery and followed her lovers, but she forgot me. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


These will serve as tassels for you to look at, so that you may remember all the Lord’s commands and obey them and not prostitute yourselves by following your own heart  and your own eyes.


You ignored the Rock who gave you birth; you forgot the God who gave birth to you.


Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you, and make an idol for yourselves in the shape of anything he has forbidden you.


‘Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves,  so that you don’t forget  the things your eyes have seen and so that they don’t slip from your mind  as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.


When you eat and are full,  you will bless the Lord your God for the good land  he has given you.


Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition,  based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ.


and abandoned the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed other gods from the surrounding peoples  and bowed down to them. They angered the Lord,
