and said, ‘We have done our best to buy back our Jewish countrymen who were sold to foreigners, but now you sell your own countrymen, and we have to buy them back.’  They remained silent and could not say a word.


For my people and I have been sold  to destruction, death, and annihilation.  If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves,  I would have kept silent. Indeed, the trouble wouldn’t be worth burdening the king.’


When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road to the land of the Philistines, even though it was nearby; for God said, ‘The people will change their minds and return to Egypt if they face war.’


I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.


They went to the land of Egypt because they did not obey the Lord. They went as far as Tahpanhes.


And I will take away the remnant of Judah,  those who have set their face to go to the land of Egypt to stay there. All of them will meet their end in the land of Egypt. They will fall by the sword; they will meet their end by famine. From the least to the greatest,  they will die by the sword and by famine. Then they will become an example for cursing, scorn,  execration, and disgrace.


Though they offer sacrificial gifts  , and eat the flesh, the Lord does not accept them. Now he will remember their guilt and punish their sins; they will return to Egypt.


They will not stay in the land of the  Lord. Instead, Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean food  in Assyria.


But if that servant says in his heart, “My master is delaying his coming,”   and starts to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,


They will be killed by the sword   , and be led captive into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles   , until the times of the Gentiles   are fulfilled.


However, he must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire many horses, for the Lord has told you, “You are never to go back that way again.”


In the morning you will say, “If only it were evening! ” and in the evening you will say, “If only it were morning! ” #– #because of the dread you will have in your heart and because of what you will see.


These are the words of the covenant  that the Lord commanded Moses to make with the Israelites in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant he had made with them at Horeb.
