If these people regularly go to offer sacrifices in the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem,  the heart of these people will return to their lord, King Rehoboam of Judah. They will kill me and go back to the king of Judah.’


Now Rehoboam, Solomon’s son, reigned in Judah.  Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he became king; he reigned for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city where the Lord had chosen from all the tribes of Israel to put his name.  Rehoboam’s mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite.


‘Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city to build a temple in among any of the tribes of Israel, so that my name  would be there. But I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.’


The Lord has fulfilled what he promised. I have taken the place of my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the  Lord  promised. I have built the temple for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.


But will God indeed live on earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain you, much less this temple I have built.


so that your eyes may watch over this temple night and day, towards the place where you said, ‘My name will be there,’ and so that you may hear the prayer that your servant prays towards this place.


Suppose you say to me, ‘We rely on the Lord our God.’ Isn’t he the one whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed,  saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You must worship at this altar in Jerusalem’ ? ”


Then David said, ‘This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel.’


Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him: I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple of sacrifice.


Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests along with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel  and his brothers began to build the altar of Israel’s God in order to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses, the man of God.


May the God who caused his name to dwell there  overthrow any king or people who dares  to harm or interfere with this house of God in Jerusalem. I, Darius, have issued the decree. Let it be carried out diligently.


Then you are to be diligent to buy with this money bulls, rams, and lambs, along with their grain and drink offerings, and offer them on the altar at the house of your God in Jerusalem.


But if you return to me and carefully observe my commands, even though your exiles were banished to the farthest horizon,  I will gather them from there and bring them to the place where I chose to have my name dwell.’


The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.


‘Make an earthen altar for me, and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your flocks and herds. I will come to you and bless you in every place where I cause my name to be remembered.


I will meet with you there above the mercy seat, between the two cherubim  that are over the ark of the testimony; I will speak with you from there about all that I command you regarding the Israelites.


‘This is what the Lord says: Stand in the courtyard of the Lord’s temple and speak all the words I have commanded you to speak to all Judah’s cities that are coming to worship there. Do not hold back a word.


‘ “But return to my place that was at Shiloh, where I made my name dwell at first.  See what I did to it because of the evil of my people Israel.


what I did to Shiloh I will do to the house that bears my name,  the house in which you trust, the place that I gave you and your ancestors.


instead of bringing it to the entrance to the tent of meeting to present it as an offering to the Lord before his tabernacle #– #that person will be considered guilty.  , He has shed blood  and is to be cut off from his people.


When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him  from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim.  He spoke to him that way.


then the Lord your God will choose the place to have his name dwell.  Bring there everything I command you: your burnt offerings, sacrifices, offerings of the tenth, personal contributions,  and all your choice offerings you vow to the Lord.


Be careful not to offer your burnt offerings in all the sacred places you see.


You are to eat them in the presence of the Lord your God at the place the Lord your God chooses #– #you, your son and daughter, your male and female slave, and the Levite who is within your city gates. Rejoice before the Lord your God in everything you do,


Don’t worship the Lord your God this way.


You are to eat a tenth of your grain, new wine, and fresh oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock, in the presence of the Lord your God at the place where he chooses to have his name dwell,  so that you will always learn to fear  the Lord your God.


But if the distance is too great for you to carry it, since the place where the Lord your God chooses to put his name is too far away from you and since the Lord your God has blessed you,


Each year you and your family are to eat it before the Lord your God in the place the Lord chooses.


Rejoice  before the Lord your God in the place where he chooses to have his name dwell #– #you, your son and daughter, your male and female slave, the Levite within your city gates, as well as the resident foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow among you.


You are to hold a seven-day festival for the Lord your God in the place he chooses, because the Lord your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands,  and you will have abundant joy.


Sacrifice to the Lord your God a Passover animal from the herd or flock in the place where the Lord chooses to have his name dwell.


Sacrifice the Passover animal only at the place where the Lord your God chooses to have his name dwell. Do this in the evening as the sun sets at the same time of day you departed from Egypt.


You are to cook and eat it in the place the Lord your God chooses, and you are to return to your tents in the morning.


‘If a case is too difficult for you #– #concerning bloodshed,  lawsuits,  or assaults   #– #cases disputed at your city gates,  then go up to the place the Lord your God chooses.


When a Levite leaves one of your towns in Israel where he was staying and wants to go to the place the Lord chooses,


take some of the first of all the land’s produce that you harvest from the land the Lord your God is giving you and put it in a basket. Then go to the place where the Lord your God chooses to have his name dwell.


when all Israel assembles in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he chooses,  you are to read this law aloud before all Israel.


For the entire fullness  of God’s nature dwells bodily  in Christ,


Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels, a festive gathering,


The entire Israelite community assembled at Shiloh  and set up the tent of meeting there. The land had been subdued before them,


Then the Israelites heard it said, ‘Look, the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh have built an altar on the frontier of the land of Canaan at the region of  the Jordan, on the Israelite side.’


On that day he made them woodcutters and water-carriers #– #as they are today #– #for the community and for the Lord’s altar at the place he would choose.


Then I looked, and there was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion,  and with him were 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.
