27 He will make a firm covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and offering. And the abomination of desolation will be on a wing  of the temple  , until the decreed destruction

For you said, ‘We have made a covenant with Death, and we have an agreement with Sheol; when the overwhelming catastrophe  passes through, it will not touch us, because we have made falsehood our refuge and have hidden behind treachery.’


So now, do not scoff, or your shackles will become stronger. Indeed, I have heard from the Lord God of Armies a decree of destruction for the whole land.


‘I am the Lord. I have called you for a righteous purpose,  , and I will hold you by your hand. I will watch over you, and I will appoint you to be a covenant for the people and a light to the nations,


After his anguish, he will see light  and be satisfied. By his knowledge, my righteous  servant  will justify many, and he will carry their iniquities.


Pay attention and come to me; listen, so that you will live. I will make a permanent covenant with you on the basis of the faithful kindnesses of David.  ,


‘For the Judeans have done what is evil in my sight.’ This is the Lord’s declaration. ‘They have set up their abhorrent things  in the house that bears my name in order to defile it.


His forces will rise up and desecrate the temple fortress. They will abolish the regular sacrifice  and set up the abomination of desolation.


‘Then the king will do whatever he wants.  He will exalt and magnify himself above every god,  and he will say outrageous things against the God of gods.  He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed,  because what has been decreed will be accomplished.


From the time the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination of desolation  is set up,  there will be 1,290 days.


He will speak words against the Most High  and oppress  the holy ones  of the Most High. He will intend to change religious festivals  and laws,  and the holy ones will be handed over to him for a time, times, and half a time.  ,


Then I heard a holy one speaking,  and another holy one said to the speaker, ‘How long will the events of this vision last   #– #the regular sacrifice, the rebellion that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and of the army to be trampled? ’


For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince,  without sacrifice  or sacred pillar,  and without ephod  or household idols.

‘So when you see the abomination of desolation,   spoken of by the prophet Daniel,   standing in the holy place’   (let the reader understand),


For this is my blood of the covenant,   which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.


Suddenly, the curtain of the sanctuary  was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.


‘When you see the abomination of desolation   , standing where it should not be’ (let the reader understand), ‘then those in Judea   must flee to the mountains.


‘When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies,   then recognise that its desolation   has come near.


They will be killed by the sword   , and be led captive into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles   , until the times of the Gentiles   are fulfilled.


And in this way all  Israel will be saved, as it is written, The Deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.


But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the one man’s trespass the many died, how much more have the grace of God and the gift which comes through the grace of the one man  Jesus Christ overflowed to the many.


For just as through one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners,  so also through the one man’s obedience  the many will be made righteous.


so also Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many,  will appear a second time,  not to bear sin, but  to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
