Yet we have not earnestly begged for forgiveness and entreated the favor of the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and have understanding and become wise in Your truth. “This is what the Lord says: I am about to bring disaster on this place and on its inhabitants, fulfilling  all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read,

Those who have a godless heart harbour anger; even when God binds them, they do not cry for help.

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and who depend on horses! They trust in the abundance of chariots and in the large number of horsemen. They do not look  to the Holy One of Israel, and they do not seek the  Lord.

The past events have indeed happened. Now I declare new events; I announce them to you before they occur.’

‘But, Jacob, you have not called on me, because, Israel, you have become weary of me.

All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted   garment; all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities  carry us away like the wind.

No one calls on your name, striving to take hold of you. For you have hidden your face from us and made us melt because of  , our iniquity.

The people did not turn to him who struck them; they did not seek the  Lord of Armies.

I have struck down your children in vain; they would not accept discipline. Your own sword has devoured your prophets like a ravaging lion.

All your lovers have forgotten you; they no longer look for you, for I have struck you as an enemy would, with the discipline  of someone cruel, because of your enormous guilt and your innumerable sins.

Lord, don’t your eyes look for faithfulness? You have struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They made their faces harder than rock, and they refused to return.

Lord, bring us back to yourself, so that we may return; renew our days as in former times,

Because you did not remember the days  of your youth but enraged me with all these things, I will also bring your conduct down on your own head.  This is the declaration of the Lord God. Haven’t you committed depravity in addition to all your detestable practices?

All Israel has broken your law and turned away,  refusing to obey you. The promised curse  written in the law of Moses,  the servant of God, has been poured out on us because we have sinned against him.

Israel’s arrogance testifies against them,  , yet they do not return to the Lord their God, and for all this, they do not seek him.
