This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: The Lord, the God of the heavens, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and has appointed me to build him a temple at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up, and may the Lord his God be with him.


Look! I am stirring up the Medes against them, who cannot be bought off with   silver and who have no desire for gold.


A troubling vision is declared to me: ‘The treacherous one acts treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Advance, Elam! Lay siege, you Medes! I will put an end to all the groaning.’


But disaster will happen to you; you will not know how to avert it. And it will fall on you, but you will be unable to ward it off. Devastation will happen to you suddenly and unexpectedly.


I will bring on that land all my words I have spoken against it, all that is written in this book that Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations.


Set apart the nations for battle against her – the kings of Media, her governors and all her officials, and all the lands they rule.


The head of the statue was pure gold, its chest and arms were silver, its stomach and thighs were bronze,


‘After you, there will arise another kingdom, inferior to yours, and then another, a third kingdom, of bronze, which will rule the whole earth.


and Darius the Mede  received the kingdom at the age of sixty-two.


So Daniel prospered  during the reign of Darius and  the reign of Cyrus the Persian.


Therefore, Your Majesty, establish the edict  and sign the document so that, as a law of the Medes and Persians, it is irrevocable and cannot be changed.’


The two-horned ram  that you saw represents the kings of Media and Persia.
