Then you said to your servants, “Bring him to me so that I can see him.”


For the eyes of the Lord roam throughout the earth  to show himself strong for those who are wholeheartedly devoted to him.  You have been foolish in this matter. Therefore, you will have wars from now on.’


During the morning watch, the Lord looked down at the Egyptian forces from the pillar of fire  and cloud, and threw the Egyptian forces into confusion.


Over all the barren heights in the wilderness the destroyers have come, for the Lord has a sword that devours from one end of the earth to the other. No one has peace.


For I have set my face against this city to bring disaster and not good   #– #this is the Lord’s declaration. It will be handed over to the king of Babylon, who will burn it.”


I will keep my eyes on them for their good  and will return them to this land. I will build them up and not demolish them; I will plant them and not uproot them.


‘Take him and look after him. Don’t do him any harm, but do for him whatever he says.’


‘Go and tell Ebed-melech the Cushite,  “This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am about to fulfil my words for disaster and not for good against this city. They will take place before your eyes on that day.


‘Therefore, this is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am about to set my face against you to bring disaster,  to cut off all Judah.


A third of your people will die by plague and be consumed by famine within you;  a third will fall by the sword all around you; and I will scatter a third to every direction of the wind, and I will draw a sword to chase after them.


You are to burn a third of it in the city when the days of the siege have ended;  you are to take a third and slash it with the sword all around the city; and you are to scatter a third to the wind, for I will draw a sword to chase after them.


‘Anyone from the house of Israel or from the foreigners who reside among them who eats any blood,  I will turn  against that person who eats blood and cut him off from his people.


But I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw a sword to chase after you. So your land will become desolate, and your cities will become ruins.


Look, the eyes of the Lord God are on the sinful kingdom, and I will obliterate it from the face of the earth. However, I will not totally destroy the house of Jacob   – this is the  Lord’s declaration –


For prior to those days neither people nor animals had wages. There was no safety from the enemy for anyone who came or went, for I turned everyone against his neighbour.
