The high places  of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed; thorns and thistles will grow over their altars. They will say to the mountains,  ‘Cover us! ’ and to the hills, ‘Fall on us! ’

I will punish the altars of Bethel on the day I punish Israel for its crimes; the horns of the altar  will be cut off and fall to the ground.

Do not seek Bethel or go to Gilgal or journey to Beer-sheba, for Gilgal will certainly go into exile, and Bethel will come to nothing.

All this will happen because of Jacob’s rebellion and the sins of the house of Israel. What is the rebellion of Jacob? Isn’t it Samaria? And what is the high place of Judah? Isn’t it Jerusalem?
