I heard the Lord of Armies say: Indeed, many houses  will become desolate, grand and lovely ones without inhabitants.


Since it was the ninth month, the king was sitting in his winter quarters  with a fire burning in front of him.


Therefore, I will send fire  against Judah, and it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem.


Therefore, the Lord God says: An enemy  will surround the land; he will destroy  your strongholds and plunder your citadels.


Therefore, because you trample on the poor and exact a grain tax from him, you will never live in the houses of cut stone you have built; you will never drink the wine from the lush vineyards you have planted.


For the Lord commands: The large house will be smashed to pieces, and the small house to rubble.


Though Edom says, ‘We have been devastated, but we will rebuild  the ruins,’ the Lord of Armies says this: ‘They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called a wicked country  and the people the Lord has cursed  for ever.


Then Ehud approached him while he was sitting alone in his upstairs room where it was cool. Ehud said, ‘I have a message from God for you,’ and the king stood up from his throne.
