1 In those days, as the disciples  were increasing in number, there arose a complaint by the Hellenistic Jews against the Hebraic Jews that their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution.

The dying blessed me, and I made the widow’s heart rejoice.


If I have refused the wishes of the poor or let the widow’s   eyes go blind,


Learn to do what is good. Pursue justice. Correct the oppressor. Defend the rights of the fatherless. Plead the widow’s cause.


In days to come, Jacob will take root. Israel will blossom and bloom and fill the whole world with fruit.


Thanksgiving will come out of them, a sound of rejoicing. I will multiply them, and they will not decrease; I will honour them, and they will not be insignificant.


Father and mother are treated with contempt,  and the resident foreigner is exploited within you. The fatherless and widow are oppressed in you.


‘I will come to you in judgement, and I will be ready to witness against sorcerers and adulterers; against those who swear falsely; against those who oppress the hired worker, the widow, and the fatherless; and against those who deny justice to the resident foreigner.  They do not fear me,’  says the Lord of Armies.


‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you don’t go in, and you don’t allow those entering to go in.   ,


But there were some of them, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks  also, proclaiming the good news about the Lord Jesus.


and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught large numbers. The disciples  were first called Christians at Antioch.


Each of the disciples, according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brothers and sisters who lived in Judea.


So those who accepted his message were baptised, and that day about three thousand people were added to them.


They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need.


praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number  those who were being saved.


and laid them at the apostles’ feet. This was then distributed to each person as any had need.


But many of those who heard the message believed, and the number of the men  came to about five thousand.


Believers were added to the Lord in increasing numbers #– #multitudes of both men and women.


‘Didn’t we strictly order you not to teach in this name?  Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.’


The Twelve summoned the whole company of the disciples and said, ‘It would not be right for us to give up preaching the word of God to wait on tables.


So the word of God spread, the disciples in Jerusalem increased  greatly in number, and a large group of priests became obedient to the faith.


He conversed and debated with the Hellenistic Jews, but they tried to kill him.


Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they led him to the room upstairs. And all the widows approached him, weeping and showing him the robes and clothes that Dorcas had made while she was with them.


He gave her his hand and helped her stand up. He called the saints and widows and presented her alive.


if service,  use it in service; if teaching,  in teaching;


And don’t grumble  as some of them did,  , and were killed by the destroyer.  ,


Are they Hebrews?  So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the descendants of Abraham?  So am I.


‘When you have finished paying all the tenth of your produce in the third year,  the year of the tenth, you are to give it to the Levites, resident foreigners, fatherless children, and widows, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied.

Support  widows  who are genuinely in need.


No widow is to be enrolled on the list for support unless she is at least sixty years old, has been the wife of one husband,


Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to look after orphans and widows  in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world.


Or do you think it’s without reason that the Scripture says: The spirit he made to dwell in us envies intensely?  ,


Brothers and sisters, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door!
