Then the officials and all the people told the priests and prophets, ‘This man doesn’t deserve the death sentence, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God! ’


Some of the elders of the land stood up  and said to all the assembled people,


Even though Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah had urged the king not to burn the scroll, he did not listen to them.


After three days, they found him in the temple sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.


On one of those days while he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law  were sitting there who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea, and also from Jerusalem. And the Lord’s power to heal was in him.


‘Are you a teacher   of Israel and don’t know these things? ’ Jesus replied.


He  continued, ‘I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia but brought up in this city, educated at the feet of Gamaliel  according to the strictness of our ancestral law. I was zealous for God, just as all of you are today.


After they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, they conferred among themselves,


Hearing this, they entered the temple at daybreak and began to teach. When the high priest and those who were with him arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin #– #the full council of the Israelites #– #and sent orders to the jail to have them brought.


After they brought them in, they had them stand before the Sanhedrin, and the high priest asked,


He said to them, ‘Men of Israel, be careful about what you’re about to do to these men.
