Then Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, ‘How have I sinned against you or your servants or these people that you have put me in prison?


But Paul said to them, ‘They beat us in public without a trial, although we are Roman citizens, and threw us in jail. And now are they going to send us away secretly? Certainly not! On the contrary, let them come themselves and escort us out.’


As Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, ‘If it were a matter of wrongdoing or of a serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you Jews.


As they stretched him out for the lash, Paul said to the centurion standing by, ‘Is it legal for you to scourge a man who is a Roman citizen and is uncondemned? ’


Paul replied, ‘I am standing at Caesar’s tribunal, where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as even you yourself know very well.


Then after Festus conferred with his council, he replied, ‘You have appealed to Caesar; to Caesar you will go.’


But when Paul appealed to be held for trial by the Emperor,  I ordered him to be kept in custody until I could send him to Caesar.’


I found that he had not done anything deserving of death, but when he himself appealed to the Emperor, I decided to send him.


Agrippa said to Festus, ‘This man could have been released if he had not appealed to Caesar.’


Because the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar;  even though I had no charge to bring against my people.


who killed the Lord Jesus  and the prophets and persecuted us.  They displease God and are hostile to everyone,


‘The Mighty One, God, the Lord! The Mighty One, God, the Lord!  , He knows,  and may Israel also know. Do not spare us today, if it was in rebellion or treachery against the Lord


David said to himself, ‘One of these days I’ll be swept away by Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape immediately to the land of the Philistines.  Then Saul will give up searching for me everywhere in Israel, and I’ll escape from him.’
