Then, when he saw what happened, the proconsul believed, because he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord.


He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hear the word of God.


But Elymas the sorcerer (that is the meaning of his name) opposed  them and tried to turn the proconsul away from the faith.


As Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, ‘If it were a matter of wrongdoing or of a serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you Jews.


For a person named Demetrius, a silversmith who made silver shrines of Artemis, provided a great deal of business for the craftsmen.


But if you seek anything further, it must be decided in a legal assembly.


If any of you has a dispute against another, how dare you take it to court  before the unrighteous,  and not before the saints?


‘If a case is too difficult for you #– #concerning bloodshed,  lawsuits,  or assaults   #– #cases disputed at your city gates,  then go up to the place the Lord your God chooses.
