So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem  ).


So three of the warriors broke through the Philistine camp and drew water from the well at the gate of Bethlehem. They brought it back to David, but he refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out to the Lord.


David was extremely thirsty  and said, ‘If only someone would bring me water to drink from the well at the city gate of Bethlehem! ’


The poor and the needy seek water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. I will answer them. I am the Lord, the God of Israel. I will not abandon them.


For I will pour water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit  on your descendants and my blessing on your offspring.


Jesus answered, ‘If you knew the gift of God,   and who is saying to you, “Give me a drink,” you would ask him, and he would give you living water.’


But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again.   In fact, the water I will give him will become a well   , of water springing up in him for eternal life.’


On the last and most important day of the festival,  Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me   , and drink.
