So Rachel died, and was buried in the highway that leadeth to Ephrata. This is Bethlehem.


And the three valiant men broke through the camp of the Philistines, and drew water out of the cistern of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and brought it to David. But he would not drink, but offered it to the Lord,


And David longed, and said: O that some man would give me water of the cistern of Bethlehem, which is in the gate.


Unto the end, a psalm for David.


The needy and the poor seek for waters, and there are none: their tongue hath been dry with thirst. I the Lord will hear them. I the God of Israel will not forsake them.


For I will pour out waters upon the thirsty ground and streams upon the dry land: I will pour out my spirit upon thy seed and my blessing upon thy stock.


Jesus answered, and said to her: If thou didst know the gift of God, and who he is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou perhaps wouldst have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.


But the water that I will give him, shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into life everlasting.


And on the last, and great day of the festivity, Jesus stood and cried, saying: If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink.
