When the Ammonites saw that the Arameans had fled, they too fled before Abishai and entered the city. So Joab withdrew from the attack against the Ammonites and went to Jerusalem.


Uriah answered David, ‘The ark, Israel, and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my master Joab and his soldiers  are camping in the open field. How can I enter my house to eat and drink and sleep with my wife? As surely as you live and by your life, I will not do this! ’


The man replied to Joab, ‘Even if I had the weight of a thousand pieces of silver  in my hand, I would not raise my hand against the king’s son. For we heard the king command you, Abishai, and Ittai, “Protect the young man Absalom for me.”  ,


He then sent out the troops, a third under Joab, a third under Joab’s brother Abishai son of Zeruiah, and a third under Ittai of Gath. The king said to the troops, ‘I must also march out with you.’


‘Now get up! Go out and encourage  your soldiers, for I swear by the Lord that if you don’t go out, not a man will remain with you tonight.  This will be worse for you than all the trouble that has come to you from your youth until now! ’


The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel.  Asahel was a fast runner, like one of the wild gazelles.


But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to his aid, struck the Philistine, and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, ‘You must never again go out with us to battle. You must not extinguish the lamp of Israel.’


Abishai, Joab’s brother and son of Zeruiah,  was leader of the Three.  He wielded his spear against three hundred men and killed them, gaining a reputation among the Three.


Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner because he had put their brother Asahel to death in the battle at Gibeon.


As for me, even though I am the anointed king, I have little power today. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too fierce for me.  May the Lord repay the evildoer according to his evil! ’


The king said to them, ‘Take my servants  with you, have my son Solomon ride on my own mule,  and take him down to Gihon.


Abishai,  Joab’s brother, was the leader of the Three.  He raised his spear against three hundred men and killed them, gaining a reputation among the Three.


Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Salt Valley.


Why are we just sitting here? Gather together; let’s enter the fortified cities and perish there, for the Lord our God has destroyed   us. He has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against the  Lord.


If a kingdom   is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.


Then David asked Ahimelech the Hethite  and Joab’s brother Abishai  son of Zeruiah, ‘Who will go with me into the camp  to Saul? ’ ‘I’ll go with you,’ answered Abishai.
