8 One day Elisha went to Shunem.  A prominent woman who lived there persuaded him to eat some food. So whenever he passed by, he stopped there to eat.

But he urged them so strongly that they followed him and went into his house. He prepared a feast and baked unleavened bread for them, and they ate.


Barzillai was a very old man #– #eighty years old #– #and since he was a very wealthy man, he had provided for the needs of the king while he stayed in Mahanaim.


They searched for a beautiful girl throughout the territory of Israel; they found Abishag  the Shunammite  , and brought her to the king.


The child grew and one day went out to his father and the harvesters.


His estate included seven thousand sheep and goats, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys,  and a very large number of servants. Job was the greatest man among all the people of the east.


It is not only the old who are wise or the elderly who understand how to judge.


She seduces him with her persistent pleading; she lures with her flattering talk.


In the same way the man with two earned two more.


For he will be great in the sight of the Lord and will never drink wine or beer.  He will be filled with the Holy Spirit  while still in his mother’s womb.


‘Then the master told the servant, “Go out into the roads and hedges and make them come in, so that my house may be filled.


But they urged him, ‘Stay with us, because it’s almost evening, and now the day is almost over.’ So he went in to stay with them.


After she and her household were baptised, she urged us, ‘If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.’  And she persuaded us.


Their territory went to Jezreel, and included Chesulloth, Shunem,


‘Welcome! ’ said the old man. ‘I’ll take care of everything you need. Only don’t spend the night in the square.’


The Philistines gathered and camped at Shunem. So Saul gathered all Israel, and they camped at Gilboa.
