He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal  that he had built in Samaria.


Jehu eliminated Baal worship from Israel,


So all the people of the land went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed its altars and images to pieces,  and they killed Mattan, the priest of Baal, at the altars. Then Jehoiada the priest appointed guards for the Lord’s temple.


He removed the high places, shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles.  He broke into pieces the bronze snake that Moses made,  for until then the Israelites were burning incense to it. It was called Nehushtan.


He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, but not like his father and mother,  for he removed the sacred pillar of Baal his father had made.


I also issue a decree concerning any man who interferes with this directive: Let a beam be torn from his house and raised up; he will be impaled on it, and his house will be made into a rubbish dump because of this offence.


Instead, you must tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, and chop down their Asherah poles.


The king replied to the Chaldeans, ‘My word is final: If you don’t tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will be torn limb from limb,  and your houses will be made a rubbish dump.


Therefore I issue a decree  that anyone of any people, nation, or language  who says anything offensive against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego will be torn limb from limb and his house made a rubbish dump.  For there is no other god who is able to deliver like this.’


I will destroy your high places, cut down your shrines,  and heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless bodies of your idols;  I will reject you.


Burn the carved images of their gods. Don’t covet the silver and gold on the images and take it for yourself, or else you will be ensnared by it, for it is detestable to the Lord your God.


Instead, this is what you are to do to them: tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, cut down their Asherah poles,  and burn their carved images.
