1 Since Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria,  Jehu wrote letters and sent them to Samaria to the rulers of Jezreel,  to the elders, and to the guardians of Ahab’s sons,  saying:

then he bought the hill of Samaria  from Shemer for seventy kilograms  of silver, and he built up the hill. He named the city he built Samaria  based on the name Shemer, the owner of the hill.


Omri rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. His son Ahab became king in his place.


‘Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? I will not bring the disaster during his lifetime,  because he has humbled himself before me. I will bring the disaster on his house during his son’s lifetime.’


She said to her mistress, ‘If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria, he would cure him of his skin disease.’


Then Jehu looked for Ahaziah,  and Jehu’s soldiers captured him (he was hiding in Samaria). So they brought Ahaziah to Jehu, and they killed him. The soldiers buried him, for they said, ‘He is the grandson of Jehoshaphat who sought the Lord with all his heart.’  So no one from the house of Ahaziah had the strength to rule the kingdom.


Then the Lord said to him: Name him Jezreel,  , for in a little while I will bring the bloodshed of Jezreel on the house of Jehu and put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.


Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth so you should tell me, “Carry them at your breast, as a nursing mother carries a baby,”  to the land that you swore to give their ancestors?


‘Appoint judges and officials for your tribes in all your towns the Lord your God is giving you. They are to judge the people with righteous judgement.


He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys. They had thirty towns  in Gilead, which are still called Jair’s Villages  today.


He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys. Abdon judged Israel for eight years,


Gideon had seventy sons, his own offspring, since he had many wives.
