Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also debated with him. Some said, ‘What is this ignorant show-off  trying to say? ’ Others replied, ‘He seems to be a preacher of foreign deities’ #– #because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.


You see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in almost all of Asia, this man Paul has persuaded and misled a considerable number of people by saying that gods made by hand are not gods.


Instead they had some disagreements  with him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, a dead man Paul claimed to be alive.


I have nothing definite to write to my lord about him. Therefore, I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that after this examination is over, I may have something to write.


by the power of miraculous signs and wonders,  and by the power of God’s Spirit. As a result, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ from Jerusalem  all the way around to Illyricum.  ,


As it is written: Because of you we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.   ,


but when we are judged  by the Lord, we are disciplined, so that we may not be condemned  with the world.


I face death every day,  as surely as I may boast about you, brothers and sisters, in Christ Jesus our Lord.


For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, in last place, like men condemned to die: We have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to people.


Even if I am untrained in public speaking,  I am certainly not untrained in knowledge.  Indeed, we have in every way made that clear to you in everything.


Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting  deceitfully or distorting the word of God,  but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth.


Therefore, since we know the fear of the Lord,  we try to persuade people. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your consciences.
