2 Chronicles 8:14 - Christian Standard Bible Anglicised

14 According to the ordinances of his father David, he appointed the divisions of the priests over their service,  of the Levites over their responsibilities to offer praise and to minister before the priests following the daily requirement,  and of the gatekeepers by their divisions with respect to each temple gate,  for this had been the command of David, the man of God.

The Spirit of the  Lord spoke through me, his word was on my tongue.


A man of God  came, however, from Judah to Bethel by the word of the Lord while Jeroboam was standing beside the altar to burn incense.


So David left Asaph and his relatives there before the ark of the Lord’s covenant to minister regularly  before the ark according to the daily requirements.


Heman and Jeduthun had with them trumpets and cymbals to play and musical instruments of God.  Jeduthun’s sons were at the city gate.


When David was old and full of days,  he installed his son Solomon as king over Israel.


The divisions of the descendants of Aaron were as follows: Aaron’s sons were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.


Together with Zadok  from the descendants of Eleazar and Ahimelech from the descendants of Ithamar, David divided them according to the assigned duties of their service.


David and the officers of the army also set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman,  and Jeduthun, who were to prophesy  accompanied by lyres, harps, and cymbals.  This is the list of the men who performed their service:


The following were the divisions of the gatekeepers: From the Korahites: Meshelemiah son of Kore, one of the sons of Asaph.


David concluded, ‘By the Lord’s hand on me, he enabled me to understand everything in writing, all the details of the plan.’


The gatekeepers:  Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their relatives. Shallum was their chief;


The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north, and south.


He stationed gatekeepers  at the gates of the Lord’s temple so that nothing unclean could enter for any reason.


This is what you are to do: a third of you, priests and Levites who are coming on duty on the Sabbath,  are to be gatekeepers.


Hezekiah stationed the Levites in the Lord’s temple with cymbals, harps, and lyres  according to the command of David,  Gad the king’s seer,  and the prophet Nathan.  For the command was from the Lord through his prophets.


Hezekiah re-established the divisions  of the priests and Levites for the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, for ministry, for giving thanks, and for praise in the gates of the camp of the Lord,  each division corresponding to his service among the priests and Levites.


So the service was established; the priests stood at their posts and the Levites in their divisions according to the king’s command.


The singers, the descendants of Asaph, were at their stations according to the command of David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer.  Also, the gatekeepers were at each temple gate.  None of them left their tasks because their Levite brothers had made preparations for them.


‘Organise your ancestral families  by your divisions  according to the written instruction of King David of Israel and that of his son Solomon.


Now all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves regardless of their divisions.  When the priests came out of the holy place,


They did not turn aside from the king’s command regarding the priests and the Levites concerning any matter or concerning the treasuries.


They also appointed the priests by their divisions and the Levites by their groups to the service of God in Jerusalem, according to what is written in the book of Moses.


The heads of the Levites #– #Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua son of Kadmiel, along with their relatives opposite them #– #gave praise and thanks, division by division, as David the man of God had prescribed.


This included Mattaniah,  Bakbukiah, and Obadiah. Meshullam, Talmon, and Akkub were gatekeepers who guarded the storerooms at the city gates.


as well as his relatives #– #Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, with the musical instruments of David, the man of God.  Ezra the scribe  went in front of them.


In the days of King Herod  of Judea, there was a priest of Abijah’s division  named Zechariah. His wife was from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.


When his division was on duty  and he was serving as priest before God,


After removing him,  he raised up David as their king and testified about him, “I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my own heart,  , who will carry out all my will.”


For David, after serving God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep,  was buried with his fathers, and decayed,


This is the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave the Israelites before his death.
