When Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away to follow other gods. He was not wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord his God, as his father David had been.


He walked in all the ways of his father Asa;  he did not turn away from them but did what was right in the Lord’s sight. However, the high places were not taken away;  the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.


Yet the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.

King Asa  also removed Maacah, his grandmother,  , from being queen mother because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. Asa chopped down her obscene image, then crushed it and burned it in the Kidron Valley.


He brought his father’s consecrated gifts and his own consecrated gifts into God’s temple: silver, gold, and utensils.


He took great pride in the Lord’s ways, and he again  removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.


He walked in the ways of Asa his father; he did not turn away from it but did what was right in the Lord’s sight.


However, the high places were not taken away;  the people had not yet set their hearts on the God of their ancestors.


He sacrificed and burned incense on the high places,  on the hills, and under every green tree.


However, the people still sacrificed at the high places,  but only to the Lord their God.
