15 All Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They had sought him with all sincerity, and he was found by them.  So the Lord gave them rest on every side.

Next, the king stood by the pillar  , and made a covenant  in the Lord’s presence to follow the Lord and to keep his commands, his decrees, and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul  in order to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book; all the people agreed to  the covenant.


Boast in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the  Lord  rejoice.


Those from every tribe of Israel who had determined in their hearts to seek the Lord their God followed the Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord, the God of their ancestors.


Because the land experienced peace, Asa built fortified cities in Judah.  No one made war with him in those days because the Lord gave him rest.


So he said to the people of Judah, ‘Let’s build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, with doors and bars.  The land is still ours because we sought the Lord our God. We sought him and he gave us rest on every side.’ So they built and succeeded.


Then they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their ancestors with all their heart and all their soul.


They took an oath to the Lord in a loud voice, with shouting, with trumpets, and with rams’ horns.


So he went out to meet Asa and said to him, ‘Asa and all Judah and Benjamin, hear me. The Lord is with you  when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you,  but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.


but when they turned to the Lord God of Israel in their distress and sought him, he was found by them.


Nation was crushed by nation and city by city, for God troubled them with every possible distress.


However, some good is found in you, for you have eradicated the Asherah poles from the land and have determined in your heart to seek God.’


Then Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was quiet, for his God gave him rest on every side.


It is in my heart now to make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel  so that his burning anger may turn away from us.


Then Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced over how God had prepared the people, for it had come about suddenly.


Then the king stood at his post  and made a covenant in the Lord’s presence  to follow the Lord and to keep his commands, his decrees, and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul  in order to carry out the words of the covenant written in this book.


Nehemiah the governor,  Ezra the priest and scribe,  and the Levites who were instructing the people said to all of them, ‘This day  is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.’  For all the people were weeping as they heard the words of the law.


But when God is silent, who can declare him guilty? When he hides his face, who can see him? Yet he watches over both individuals and nations,


Moses came and told the people all the commands of the Lord and all the ordinances. Then all the people responded with a single voice, ‘We will do everything that the Lord has commanded.’


Her ways are pleasant, and all her paths, peaceful.


Yes, Lord, we wait for you in the path of your judgements. Our desire is for your name and renown.


I have not spoken in secret, somewhere in a land of darkness. I did not say to the descendants of Jacob: Seek me in a wasteland. I am the Lord, who speaks righteously, who declares what is right.


Indeed, this is our boast: The testimony  of our conscience  is that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially towards you, with godly sincerity and purity, not by human wisdom  but by God’s grace.


You, the Levites, and the resident foreigners among you will rejoice  in all the good things the Lord your God has given you and your household.


I am torn between the two. I long to depart and be with Christ   #– #which is far better   #– #


A long time after the Lord had given Israel rest from all the enemies around them,  Joshua was old, advanced in age.


On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people at Shechem and established a statute and ordinance for them.
