1 Samuel 18:3
9 Tagairtí Cros

David spared Mephibosheth, the son of Saul’s son Jonathan, because of the oath of the Lord that was between David and Jonathan, Saul’s son.

One with many friends may be harmed, but there is a friend who stays closer than a brother.

Saul ordered his son Jonathan and all his servants to kill David.  But Saul’s son Jonathan liked David very much,

When the servant had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone Ezel, fell face down to the ground, and paid homage three times.  Then he and Jonathan kissed each other and wept with each other, though David wept more.

Jonathan then said to David, ‘Go in the assurance the two of us pledged in the name of the Lord when we said, “The Lord will be a witness between you and me and between my offspring and your offspring for ever.” ’  Then David left, and Jonathan went into the city.

That’s why all of you have conspired against me! Nobody tells me when my own son makes a covenant with Jesse’s son.  None of you cares about me  or tells me that my son has stirred up my own servant to wait in ambush for me, as is the case today.’

Then the two of them made a covenant in the Lord’s presence.  Afterwards, David remained in Horesh, while Jonathan went home.
