Yet David did capture the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.


David took up residence in the stronghold, which he named the city of David. He built it up all the way round from the supporting terraces inward.


and this is the reason he rebelled against the king: Solomon had built the supporting terraces  and repaired the opening in the wall of the city of his father David.


Solomon made an alliance  with Pharaoh king of Egypt by marrying Pharaoh’s daughter.  Solomon brought her to the city of David  until he finished building his palace,  the Lord’s temple,  and the wall surrounding Jerusalem.


Solomon’s own palace where he would live, in the other courtyard behind the hall, was of similar construction. And he made a house like this hall for Pharaoh’s daughter, his wife.  ,


Then Hezekiah strengthened his position by rebuilding the entire broken-down wall  and heightening the towers and the other outside wall.  He repaired the supporting terraces  of the city of David, and made an abundance of weapons and shields.


Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh from the city of David to the house he had built for her,  for he said, ‘My wife must not live in the house  of King David of Israel because the places the ark of the Lord has come into are holy.’
