Now a wicked man, a Benjaminite named Sheba son of Bichri, happened to be there. He blew the ram’s horn and shouted: We have no portion in David, no inheritance in Jesse’s son. Each man to his tent,  Israel!


The men of his city, the elders and nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent word to them, just as it was written in the letters she had sent them.


In the letters, she wrote: Proclaim a fast  and seat Naboth at the head of the people.


Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders  were sitting with him. The king sent a man ahead of him, but before the messenger got to him, Elisha said to the elders, ‘Do you see how this murderer  has sent someone to remove my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door to keep him out. Isn’t the sound of his master’s feet behind him? ’


Whenever a round of banqueting was over, Job would send for his children and purify them, rising early in the morning to offer burnt offerings for  all of them. For Job thought, ‘Perhaps my children have sinned, having cursed God in their hearts.’  This was Job’s regular practice.

Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far off. For truth has stumbled in the public square, and honesty cannot enter.


‘Bring the one who has cursed to the outside of the camp and have all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then have the whole community stone him.


‘We aren’t stoning  you for a good work,’ the Jews answered, ‘but for blasphemy, because you #– #being a man #– #make yourself God.’


Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, ‘We heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.’


They also presented false witnesses who said, ‘This man never stops speaking against this holy place and the law.


that wicked men have sprung up among you, led the inhabitants of their city astray, and said, “Let’s go and worship other gods,” which you have not known,


‘One witness cannot establish any iniquity or sin against a person, whatever that person has done.  A fact must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.


While they were enjoying themselves, all of a sudden, wicked men of the city  surrounded the house and beat on the door. They said to the old man who was the owner of the house, ‘Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him! ’


Eli’s sons were wicked men;  they did not respect the Lord
