12 But she said, ‘As the Lord your God lives,  I don’t have anything baked #– #only a handful of flour in the jar and a bit of oil  in the jug. Just now, I am gathering a couple of sticks in order to go and prepare it for myself and my son so we can eat it and die.’

When the water in the skin was gone, she left the boy under one of the bushes

But in response, Ittai vowed to the king, ‘As the Lord lives and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king is, whether it means life or death, your servant will be there! ’

then you can swear, ‘As the  Lord  lives,’ in truth,  justice, and righteousness, and then the nations will be blessed  by him and will boast in him.


When they say, ‘As the  Lord  lives,’ they are swearing falsely.


Those slain by the sword are better off than those slain by hunger, who waste away, pierced with pain because the fields lack produce.

Now my lord, as surely as the Lord lives and as you yourself live #– #it is the Lord who kept you from participating in bloodshed and avenging yourself  by your own hand–may your enemies and those who intend to harm my lord be like Nabal.


David added, ‘As the Lord lives, the Lord will certainly strike him down:  either his day will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish.
