The Gibeonites were not Israelites but rather a remnant of the Amorites. The Israelites had taken an oath concerning them,  but Saul had tried to kill them in his zeal for the Israelites and Judah. So David summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them.


There was war between Asa and King Baasha of Israel throughout their reigns.


So Hezekiah gave him all the silver found in the Lord’s temple and in the treasuries of the king’s palace.


‘There’s a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. Look, I have sent you silver and gold. Go and break your treaty with Israel’s King Baasha so that he will withdraw from me.’


At that time, the seer Hanani  came to King Asa of Judah and said to him, ‘Because you depended on the king of Aram and have not depended on the Lord your God,  the army of the king of Aram has escaped from you.


Then Jehu  son of the seer Hanani went out to confront him  and said to King Jehoshaphat, ‘Do you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord?  Because of this, the Lord’s wrath is on you.


Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and who depend on horses! They trust in the abundance of chariots and in the large number of horsemen. They do not look  to the Holy One of Israel, and they do not seek the  Lord.


senseless, untrustworthy, unloving,  , and unmerciful.


And why not say, just as some people slanderously claim we say, ‘Let us do what is evil so that good may come’?  Their condemnation is deserved!
