But Uriah slept at the door of the palace with all his master’s servants; he did not go down to his house.


After this, Absalom got himself a chariot, horses, and fifty men to run before him.


At that time Abijah son of Jeroboam became ill.


Whenever the king entered the Lord’s temple, the guards would carry the shields, then they would take them back to the armoury.  ,


But the Lord had said to Ahijah, ‘Jeroboam’s wife is coming soon to ask you about her son, for he is ill. You are to say such and such to her. When she arrives, she will be disguised.’


The power of the Lord   was on Elijah, and he tucked his mantle under his belt  and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.


He took the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, the guards,  and all the people of the land, and they brought the king from the Lord’s temple. They entered the king’s palace by way of the guards’ gate. Then Joash  sat on the throne of the kings.


In  the seventh year, Jehoiada  sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, and the guards.  He made them come to him in the Lord’s temple, where he made a covenant with them and put them under oath. He showed them the king’s son


Then the king ordered the guards standing by him, ‘Turn and kill the priests of the Lord   because they sided with David. For they knew he was fleeing, but they didn’t tell me.’ But the king’s servants would not lift a hand to execute the priests of the Lord.


He said, ‘These are the rights of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and put them to his use in his chariots, on his horses, or running in front of his chariots.
