the Ammonite leaders said to Hanun their lord, ‘Just because David has sent men with condolences for you, do you really believe he’s showing respect for your father? Instead, hasn’t David sent his emissaries in order to scout out the city, spy on it, and demolish it? ’


I know your thoughts very well, the schemes by which you would wrong me.


A quick-tempered person acts foolishly, and one who schemes is hated.


The people will oppress one another, man against man, neighbour against neighbour; the young will act arrogantly towards the old, and the worthless towards the honourable.


for I was like a docile   lamb led to slaughter. I didn’t know that they had devised plots against me: ‘Let’s destroy the tree with its fruit; let’s cut him off from the land of the living so that his name will no longer be remembered.’


Moses was a very humble man, more so than anyone on the face of the earth.


Then Moses became angry and said to the Lord, ‘Don’t respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them or mistreated a single one of them.’


But Moses asked the Gadites and Reubenites, ‘Should your brothers go to war while you stay here?


But I tell you, everyone who is angry with his brother or sister   will be subject to judgement. Whoever insults   his brother or sister will be subject to the court.   Whoever says, “You fool! ” will be subject to hellfire.   ,


Perceiving their thoughts,  Jesus said, ‘Why are you thinking evil things in your hearts?


After looking round at them with anger,  he was grieved at the hardness  of their hearts and told the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.


When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, ‘This man, if he were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him #– #she’s a sinner! ’


No one is to seek his own good, but the good of the other person.


just as I also try to please everyone in everything, not seeking my own benefit, but the benefit of many,  so that they may be saved.


For to begin with, I hear that when you come together as a church there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.


so that there would be no division  in the body, but that the members would have the same concern for each other.


If any man thinks he is acting improperly towards the virgin he is engaged to, if she is getting beyond the usual age for marriage, and he feels he should marry #– #he can do what he wants. He is not sinning; they can get married.


That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world  to himself,  not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us.


For you were called  to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity  for the flesh, but serve one another through love.


all seek their own interests,  not those of Jesus Christ.


Finally  brothers and sisters, whatever is true,  whatever is honourable,  whatever is just,  whatever is pure,  whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable #– #if there is any moral excellence  and if there is anything praiseworthy #– #dwell on these things.


For you yourselves know how you should imitate  us: We were not idle among you;


This is why I endure  all things for the elect:  so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.


At my first defence, no one stood by me, but everyone deserted me.  May it not be counted against them.


My dear brothers and sisters, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,
