4 ‘Yet the Lord God of Israel chose me out of all my father’s family  to be king over Israel for ever.  For he chose Judah as leader,  and from the house of Judah, my father’s family, and from my father’s sons,  he was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. King David made a covenant with them  at Hebron in the Lord’s presence, and they anointed David king over Israel.


Now, Lord, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and his house be confirmed for ever, and do as you have promised.


So now, you have been pleased to bless your servant’s house that it may continue before you for ever. For you, Lord, have blessed it, and it is blessed for ever.


Although Judah became strong among his brothers  and a ruler came from him,  the birthright was given to Joseph.


But I have chosen Jerusalem so that my name will be there, and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’


Now it is evident that our Lord came from Judah,  and Moses said nothing about that tribe concerning priests.


The Lord said to Samuel, ‘How long are you going to mourn for Saul,  since I have rejected him as king over Israel?  Fill your horn with oil  and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem  because I have selected for myself a king from his sons.’


Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah saying, ‘David is hiding on the hill of Hachilah opposite Jeshimon.’
