When the sons of Israel had seen it, they said one to another: "Manhu?" which means "What is this?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them: "This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.


Now the sons of Israel ate manna for forty years, until they arrived in a habitable land. With this food they were nourished, even until they touched the borders of the land of Canaan.


And Moses said: "In the evening, the Lord will give you flesh to eat, and in the morning, bread in fullness. For he has heard your murmurings that you have murmured against him. For what are we? Your murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord."


You shall keep the solemnity of unleavened bread. For seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, just as I instructed you, at the time of the month of new grain, when you departed from Egypt. You shall not appear empty-handed in my sight,


A man is not defiled by what enters into the mouth, but by what proceeds from the mouth. This is what defiles a man."


Then Jesus said to him: "Go away, Satan. For it has been written: 'You shall adore the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.' "


Jesus said to him, "Again, it has been written: 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.' "


"But," he said "the things which go out from a man, these pollute a man.


And in response, Jesus said to him, "It is said: 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.' "


And Jesus answered him, "It is written: 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.' "


And in response, Jesus said to him: "It is written: 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him alone.' "


But when the Advocate has arrived, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will offer testimony about me.


Then what if you were to see the Son of man ascending to where he was before?


For whatever was written, was written to teach us, so that, through patience and the consolation of the Scriptures, we might have hope.


And take up the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God).


He afflicted you with need, and he gave you Manna as your food, which neither you nor your fathers knew, so as to reveal to you that it is not by bread alone that man lives, but by every word that goes forth from the mouth of God.
